Birmingham's independent brewing scene has grown into one of the most exciting in the country, with characterful microbreweries tucked into the city's old workshops, arches and warehouses. Once a place better known for its industry than its beer, the city now has a thriving cluster of small, independent breweries turning out everything from crisp lagers to hazy pale ales and rich stouts. This Birmingham brewery tour spends the best part of a day hopping between taprooms and craft beer venues, with behind-the-scenes access to the kit at two of the city's most characterful breweries and plenty of beer tasting along the way. It's a relaxed, sociable way to get under the skin of Birmingham's craft beer scene, whether you know your saisons from your stouts or you're simply along for a good day out. Either way, you'll come away with a proper feel for Birmingham's brewing revival.
What you'll do
Rock and Roll Brewery. The day starts inside Rock and Roll Brewery, where Mark and Lynn take you on a tour of the equipment at this genuinely unique brewery, with tastings of the beers brewed on site.
Burning Soul Brewery. Next it's on to the award-winning Burning Soul Brewery, where you'll meet the team, take another look behind the scenes and taste more of what they brew.
The Wolf. You'll finish at The Wolf, where the focus turns to beer pairings with cheese and meats, and there are further tastings to round off the day.
Across the three venues you're in good hands with a guided tour and beer tastings throughout, so you can concentrate on the drinking, the stories behind each brewery and the company. Expect time to chat with the people who actually make the beer, and to ask the questions you've always wondered about.
