Cheese, charcuterie and craft beer make one of the great pairings, and this guided tasting walk brings all three together along Bermondsey's famous beer mile in London. Strung out beneath the railway arches south of the river, the beer mile is one of the capital's best-loved craft beer destinations — a run of independent breweries and taprooms that has become a weekend pilgrimage for London's beer lovers. This tour turns a wander between them into a proper food-and-drink experience: a relaxed, sociable brewery tour where quality British cheese and cured meats are matched to the beers in your glass. Across the afternoon your guide leads a beer tasting at every stop, explaining how the flavours on the plate play off the styles on the bar. It's an easy, unhurried way to spend a Saturday among the arches, learning a little as you go.
What you'll do
Southwark Brewery. The tour begins here with a welcome drink and a friendly introduction to the day ahead — the neighbourhood, the beer mile and how the tastings work — so everyone settles in before the walking starts.
Billy Frank's Jerky. From there it's on to Billy Frank's for cheese and beer tastings, where your guide talks you through how different British cheeses and cured meats pair with different styles of beer, and why some combinations sing while others clash.
Anspach & Hobday, Bianca Road or Moor Vaults. The walk finishes in one of these neighbouring beer-mile taprooms for a final tasting, rounding out three venues in all. There's at least one tasting at every stop, with beer, cheese and charcuterie throughout, plus expert food-and-beer pairing guidance from a knowledgeable guide — so you come away with a real feel for what makes a good match work and a few ideas to try at home.
