Where to drink in Lewes
Lewes is a brewery town in the fullest sense. Harvey's has brewed beside the Ouse since 1790, and its Victorian Gothic brewhouse — affectionately known as Lewes Cathedral — still perfumes the town centre on brewing days. Sussex Best Bitter is the local currency, poured with care in pubs across the county.
The town drinks well beyond the brewery gates. The John Harvey Tavern sits opposite the brewery yard, the Lewes Arms tucks in behind the castle with its own gently eccentric traditions, and the Snowdrop Inn at the foot of Cliffe is a favourite for cask ale and food.
Brighton is fifteen minutes away by train, bringing micropubs, taprooms and tasting experiences within easy reach — which is why the bookable experiences below are Brighton-based.
