About this experience

Beekeeping Taster Workshop with Honey Tasting

If you want to try beekeeping without committing to a half-day, Hiver's Beekeeping Taster Workshop is the short version. In an hour you'll suit up, inspect real hives alongside expert beekeepers, handle a frame and finish with a honey tasting.

What you'll do

Your beekeeper explains how the hive is organised and what the bees are doing at that point in the season. Then you'll open the hive together. You'll handle a frame and see the colony up close. Afterwards, a honey tasting shows how much flavour varies between honeys.

London or Sussex

The taster runs at two locations. One is in central London, for an urban beekeeping experience. The other is in the Sussex countryside near Brighton, if you'd rather combine it with a day out of town. Choose your location when you book.

Who it's for

No experience is needed. It's a good fit for curious beginners and anyone thinking about keeping bees, and it makes a memorable gift. If you'd like to add a beer tasting, take a look at Hiver's two-hour London Beekeeping & Beer Tasting.

When it runs

The taster runs from April to September, during the beekeeping season.

What to wear

Beekeeping suits are provided. Wear closed shoes and socks that cover your ankles. On very wet days, when the hives can't be opened, the session focuses on how a hive is built and on hive by-products instead.

About Hiver

Hiver is a London honey beer brand, born out of an admiration for the city's urban beekeepers and a passion for craft beer. Its beers use only British ingredients and are fermented with raw honey, and the range includes a Honey Blonde Beer and a Honey Brown Ale. Hiver is one of the longest-standing venues on the Bermondsey Beer Mile, and its taproom on Stanworth Street has a live colony of bees in an exhibition hive on the wall.
