Where to drink in Cardiff
Cardiff is compact enough to drink your way around on foot, which suits it nicely. Brains has been the city's brewer since the 1880s and its beers remain the staple pour across the centre, while Tiny Rebel — the Newport brewery — runs a much-loved bar on Westgate Street opposite the Principality Stadium. For Welsh cask ale in a proper pub, the City Arms on Quay Street is the reliable choice.
The real treasures are the Victorian and Edwardian arcades: narrow, glass-roofed lanes threaded between St Mary Street and The Hayes, filled with independent cafés and shops. Cardiff Central Market has traded under its iron roof since Victorian times, and Womanby Street — one of the city's oldest — is the place for live music and a late drink.
Don't miss:
- The arcades between St Mary Street and The Hayes
- Cardiff Central Market's food stalls
- A Welsh pint at the City Arms or Tiny Rebel Cardiff
- Live music on Womanby Street
