Where to drink in Liverpool

Liverpool's drinking culture is woven into its architecture. The Philharmonic Dining Rooms on Hope Street is often called one of the most ornate pubs in Britain — Grade I listed, all mosaic and mahogany — and the Georgian Quarter around it is full of handsome spots for a pint. Down towards the old docks, the Baltic Triangle has become the city's creative quarter, home to Cains Brewery Village, where the Victorian brewery buildings now house bars, street food and the Baltic Market food hall.

Between the two, Ropewalks packs bars and late-night venues into former warehouses, while the traditional pubs around Dale Street keep older habits alive. It's a compact, walkable city — which makes it ideal pub crawl territory.

Don't miss:

  • The Philharmonic Dining Rooms' Grade I-listed interior
  • Cains Brewery Village and Baltic Market
  • Ropewalks for bars in converted warehouses
  • The traditional pubs around Dale Street
